LEAD POISONING PREVENTION TASK FORCE

If you have a vested interest in serving on our task force to address childhood lead poisoning in Omaha, please let us know. The kick-off for the task force was held on October 5 and faciliatated by Dr. Bruce Lanphear. The group identified several areas to focus attention including:

  • Omaha ZIP code 68111
  • Education of medical providers
  • Testing of HOMES and well as children
  • Including housing service providers in the mix

PAID INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITY


Omaha Healthy Kids Alliance seeks interns to help support our programs and activities. Some of the many areas that require support include but are not limited to: research & writing; program support; event planning, housing repair and maintenance assistance, community outreach activities.

Interns are provided:

  • Training to students on the various aspects of lead and healthy homes
  • A look at environmental hazards in general
  • The opportunity for hands-on experiences within the community
  • The potential for working and networking with community leaders in Omaha
  • A multi-cultural approach to education and outreach

     

    Interns at OHKA can work in the following areas:

    • Assisting with conducting healthy home assessments in homes of our clients
    • Assisting with writing grants, proposals, articles and with PR in general
    • Creating social media campaigns
    • Assisting with fundraising activities and events
    • Conducting outreach in the community at health fairs and other events
    • General office work
    • Assisting with HR materials
    • Working on educational projects to assist in advancing policies and standards.

     

    We welcome students of all backgrounds and encourage people who are creative, energetic and passionate about environmental health to apply!

     

    Intern Requirements

    • Interest in children's health, environmental health and social justice
    • Flexibility to work in a variety of capacities and support diverse endeavors
    • Excellent written and oral communication skills
    • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work independently, as well as part of a team
    • Ability to learn and adapt to a fast paced environment
