Lead Laws Lead PRE is a Federal regulation affecting renovations/repairs in residential housing built before 1978. Lead PRE is designed to provide residents of pre 1978 housing with information to help prevent lead exposure which can cause serious health effects, especially in children and pregnant women. PRE Renovation Education Rule The Lead PRE requires the distribution of the lead pamphlet, Protect Your Family from Lead in Your Home, to the owners and occupants before starting ANY renovation. Certain types of renovations can release lead from paint and dust into the air and cause serious health problems. This includes anyone who’s compensated work disturbs paint in housing built before 1978:
Anyone required by law to follow this rule caught in violation could face a large fine of $10,000.00 or more.
